Good news! šŸ˜ˆ

SOMEDAY COMPLETING THAT TO-DO LIST WON'T MATTER

Happy Single Tasking Day!Ā In our always busy and on-the-go world we're often expected to "multi-task," but in my experience, it often means never really getting anything done. I tend to focus on single tasking most days so at leastĀ oneĀ thing gets completed.

Since today's occasion is about tasking, I'm going to share a little self-care/tasking tip I adopted for myself that might help you, too.

I have always kept a to-do list, but until recently when I finished a to-do it would disappear from my to-do list and quickly be forgotten. This made itĀ very easy to hate myself for never getting anything done because the to-do list never empties;Ā in fact, it's usually growing instead of contracting.Ā Nowadays when something comes off the to-do list it goes on a done list.Ā When my inner critic starts complaining that I don't get enough completed, I've got a done list handy to prove it wrong.

I like this practice not just for my own sanity, but for sharing accomplishments whenĀ needed. It's handy for keeping an updated resume, persuading a boss to give you a raise, or winning arguments about your level of productivity, even if it's with yourself. Give it a try!

Spoiler alert: we have a new product collection coming this week that might actually come in handy for starting your own done list.Ā Inventory supposedly arrives today, but FedEx is often full of lies, so I don't want to make any promises until we're unloading it from a delivery truck. Fingers crossed though!

1.Ā What's yourĀ actualĀ day job and what's yourĀ dreamĀ day job?

My day jobĀ wasĀ a grueling, soul-sucking government gig that paid zero dollars and made me sweat blood on a regular basis. I've retired from that circus. My dream job would be to be working as a textile preservationist in a museum costume collection. Or playing dress upĀ for money. Not in a perverted way that would end up in a felony conviction, but like in a historical drama kind of way.

2.Ā What's your biggest pet peeve?

Anti Vaxxers. Holocaust Deniers. Mansplainers. Racists. Non-voters. Anyone threatened by teaching of critical race theory.Ā  Inaccurate period costuming. Persons who do not use turn signals. Oh, wait. I'm sorry. Was I supposed to only pick one? 'Cause they all rank about the same in terms of instant Peeved Beyond Control.

3.Ā What's a life pro tip the Boredwalk community needs to know?

Steel recycles. Recycle those pet food cans, people.

4.Ā If you could have any super power what would it be and why?

Omg, flying for sure. I have had flying dreams my entire life. And it always kicks utter and complete ass. Also,Ā walking takes too long, so flying would be a real time-saver!

5.Ā You can curse your nemesis with a minor annoyance for eternity; what do you choose?

To always have a slight misstep when entering an elevator that causes an awkward forward tripping motion. Double strength for when carrying beverages or gooey pastries.

6.Ā What experience do you most want to cross off your bucket list?

I was going to say visiting Bhutan, riding the "toy train" to Shimla, visiting Jeju Island or Spiti, but actually, I want to visit the chateaux of the Loire Valley in France. I've wanted to do that since I was a tot.Ā

7.Ā Clear up a misconception (about your job, where you are from, some other topic you know a lot about).

You do not have to be drunk to do karaoke.Ā
Also, visit Medellin, Colombia. It's awesome and beautiful. But please do not praise Pablo You-Know-Who.

8. What is a surprising fact about you?

My husband and I have an unofficial cat hospice. Before the pandemic we were active with a no-kill rescue shelter in our state. About ten years ago we began fostering "un-adoptable" cats from this rescue. Older cats whose owners had died, gone into assisted living, or who had surrendered their pets due to a variety of factors. Or cats with medical issues whose owners had dumped them ā€”Ā all types of cats that were unlikely to be adopted due to age or medical issues. It's heartbreaking and wonderful all at once.

When we sold our house (it was trying to kill us, my hand to God, I swear!) we ended up in a mid-century ranch house. Which we have essentially turned into a huge catio. Literally everything in the house is for the cats. Since we have so many elderly cats, our coffee tables have become covered with heating pads and cats. The vet bills are astronomical, but what the hell, it's better than spending it on drugs and porn.

9.Ā Make a prediction about something you think has a reasonably good chance of happening in the remaining months of 2022.

There is a reasonably good chance I will get back to South Korea in the next few months. And possibly back to some dear friendsĀ  in New Delhi. There is an equally possible chance that I will end up staring at the wall for six months. (I get really pouty when I don't get to run off to random places.)

10.Ā Where can the rest of the Boredwalk community find you?

You cannot find me. Unless you are into karaoke. Then, totally hit me up. I will karaoke anytime, anywhere. Ask my husband. He's had to live through it. St. Louis, MontrĆ©al ( home of the awesome monthly Bareoke strip karaoke!), NYC, Seattle, South Korea, the Outer Banks ā€”Ā I'm shameless.
