December 31, 2021

🍾 It's the last day of the year. How we gonna kick it? 🥂

WE GONNA KICK IT ROOT DOWN

Well, here we are — the end. We did it! It's been a bumpy ride, but we made it through 2021. Pat yourself on the back and try to forget the fact that time is a illusory human construct and next year won't magically be one iota better simply because we replace that 1 with a 2 tomorrow. Don't despair, though! Reality is for the harsh light of January 1st. December 31st is all about unfounded and delusional optimism about the next 365 days!

Whatever, Lois. Spoken like someone who's constantly getting bailed out of jams by a hunky flying alien. If the rest of us fall out of a helicopter we just die.

As you may have noticed up top, we have a new design inspired by a few of our favorite carnivorous plant specimens! At Boredwalk HQ we're waiting for our Venus flytraps to come out of their winter dormancy, but until then we can admire these vibrant vintage botanical illustrations!

I also want to mention that today is the last day to enjoy 2021 pricing on Boredwalk products! Raising prices is never something we do lightly, but the cost of the materials we use has gone up dramatically over the last few years, as have labor and shipping costs, so this weekend we'll be increasing prices. If you've been eyeing Boredwalk merch for a while, now is the time to act — especially since we're also discontinuing many older designs this weekend to make room for new stuff coming next year!

Save even more and take 10% off orders of $100 or more with the code YAY10. Also don't forget that orders of $75 or more ship for free within the US!

Oh, and in case you missed it earlier this week, we also added some new stuff to our clearance sectionSo many ways to save as we bid adieu to this dumpster fire of a year!

Quick sidebar before we move on to today's notable birthdays: do you know a lot about Web3 or NFTs? If so, please reply to this and explain them! Boredwalk co-founder Meredith and I have been trying to research these things, but the more we read about them, the further away we seem to get from understanding them.

From what I've been able to gather, NFTs are like pogs, but more expensive, complicated, and digital, and Web3 is the next generation of the internet that is going to replace its current corporate overlords — your Googles, your Facebooks, your Amazons, etc. — with...a kinder, cuddlier version thereof? It's all very confusing for my Covid-addled brain, and I could use some help.

I'm a willing & eager student — promise!

Alright, time to eat some cake so we have a nice base in our bellies to soak up all those effervescent beverages we'll be consuming safely in isolation on the couch this evening! Today we're celebrating the birthdays of:

• Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal, born this day in 1908!

• Actor Anthony Hopkins, born this day in 1937!

• Actor Val Kilmer, born this day in 1959!
