Boredwalk Community: Dreaming of Dinosaurs and Skydiving

Greetings from Hades Tshirt

Welcome to our weekly Boredwalk Community series, where we ask Boredwalk fans fun questions! This week we're talking to Scott P. of Winter Garden FL, who's looking sharp in a Greetings from Hades tee.

1. What's your actual day job and what's your dream day job?

I'm a triple threat. I work full-time at Walt Disney World as a Skipper on the Jungle Cruise (basically I tell dad jokes on water) and a Butler at the Haunted Mansion (I buttle, sir). I'm also a part-time Starbucks barista. I even make julienne fries!

My dream day job would be a Mythologist. It doesn't exist to my knowledge*, but something like a cross between an English professor and an archaeologist. I love the stories of gods and monsters that have defined our world. When I'm bored, Wikipedia black holes are my best friend. I would love to just be a wealth of knowledge on ancient folklore, and be able to travel to different temples and ruins to find artifacts. I guess my dream job is being Indiana Jones, come to think of it. (Ed. note: Joseph Campbell corpse may take umbrage...but if he was able to do it, you certainly can!)

2. What experience do you most want to cross off your bucket list?

I feel like it's a common one, but I would really love to sky dive. I've always wanted to. I bet it would feel so freeing to just let go and fall. Plus, I would reenact the Power Rangers when they have to raise money to save the Angel Grove Observatory. (Can I also say my dream job is the Blue Ranger?) (You just did!)

3. What's your biggest pet peeve?

Manhattan clam chowder. I'm originally from Boston and seafood is my favorite food. Manhattan clam chowder is marinara sauce that's lying about being clam chowder. (I couldn't agree more. Chowder isn't chowder if it's red and watery.)

4. Clear up a misconception (about your job, where you're from, or some other topic you know a lot about.)

Knowledge is knowing Frankenstein wasn't the monster, but wisdom is knowing Frankenstein WAS the monster. *snaps to that* (I love a good possessive vs contraction apostrophe joke! Well-played, sir.)

5. Got an article from your social media feed or other internet travels this week that everyone should see?

Dinosaurs are so rad, and any new info on their existence is amazing. I'm still waiting for feathers to be confirmed. (Ed. note: Scott originally linked to a good, but brief USA Today article related to this, but I decided to override that with a really well-written long-form piece in The New Yorker from the same day. I hope you don't mind, Scott!)
