A LITTLE BURNED
Happy National Fajita Day! You know, I enjoy a lot of Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes, but fajitas are without question one of my faves. Sure, they're delicious, which is an integral component of their delectability, but they're also dangerous, which is more than a little appealing!
If you order an item at a restaurant and the server doesn't warn you to avoid touching the sizzling cast iron skillet they place in front of you, is it even worth the calories? Anything to feel alive when your baseline state is "dead inside," amirite?
An appropriate response any time a shirtless buffoon sits down at a restaurant.
Today is also National Couples Day. If you happen to have found someone that can tolerate your presence for more than a passing moment, feel free to celebrate your achievement today! I hear that making fajitas is a wonderful couples activity.
If, however, you are not attached to another human in the context of a romantic relationship (or even one borne strictly out of convenience for discounted rent/mortgage purposes), there is still cause for celebration today — this means you can eat fajitas every damn day without having to take anyone else's preferences into consideration! Yay!

Before we get to this week's amusing links let's acknowledge a few August 18th birthdays!
Today marks the 431st anniversary since the discovery of the disappearance of the Roanoke Colony in Virginia in 1590. Spooky scary!
It was also on this day in 1920 that the state of Tennessee ratified the 19th Amendment, getting it over the threshold needed to become Constitutional law and granting women in the United States the right to vote. About damn time.
Feliz cumpleaños to Pittsburgh Pirates baseball legend Roberto Clemente, born this day in 1934! Far from being just a generationally talented hitter and fielder, Clemente was a stand-up human who spent his off seasons engaging in humanitarian work. It was in the course of this laudable endeavor that he died in a plane crash while transporting supplies to the victims of a massive earthquake in Nicaragua in 1972, just one year after winning the World Series and being named World Series MVP. He is the namesake of the Roberto Clemente Award, given to the MLB player who "best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement, and the individual's contribution to his team."
Today is also the birthday of actors Robert Redford (1936), Patrick Swayze (1952), Edward Norton (1969), Christian Slater (1969), Kaitlin Olson (1975), and Andy Samberg (1978).

1. I would understand the appeal of ASMR a lot more if every instance of it was this adorable.

At first I was a bit thrown by the lack of musical accompaniment for this video, but the longer I watched it the more I realized that it would have distracted me from the visual movement and split my attention in an undesirable way. Enjoy!
