Too busy disposing of baddies to water? 🌱

CONSIDER A FAUX PLANT INSTEAD!

Happy National Bittersweet Chocolate Day! The way these food-related occasions keep coming fast and furious in January makes me think Big Sugar really does experience a sales slump related to New Year's resolution-making. Big Sugar is relentless!

Today is also Houseplant Appreciation Day, which is a great thing to celebrate! Houseplants are soothing, and even if you're cursed when it comes to keeping plants alive, studies show that faux plants are just as therapeutic as their chlorophyll-rich counterparts!

Alright, before we get to those links let's acknowledge some notable events and famous birthdays from January 10ths of yore. Maybe yours! If it is, happy birthday!

• In 49 BCE Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon river with his army against the command of the Roman senate, signaling the start of civil war. The phrase "crossing the Rubicon" has survived as a reference to committing oneself to a risky course of action, similar to "passing the point of no return." Fun with revolutionary linguistics!

• In 1776 political activist Thomas Paine published his pamphlet Common Sense, advocating for the independence of the thirteen original colonies from British rule
• In 1927 Fritz Lang's futuristic expressionist sci-fi film Metropolis was released in Germany
