• In 1967 Thurgood Marshall was sworn in as the first Black justice of the US Supreme Court.

• On this day in 1980 Michael Myers became the first member of either chamber of Congress to be expelled since the Civil War. An unsurprising outcome when you have a proclivity for slashing your colleagues to death with a kitchen knife. Oh, not THAT Michael Myers? A different Michael Myers, who was involved in a major bribery and corruption scandal? Oh, OK, got it. That makes more sense.
